Brisbane Lions Development Coach Zane Littlejohn says that playing his role will go a long way towards helping the Club become relevant again in the AFL.

It was last week announced that Littlejohn would join the Lions as a Development Coach, assisting with the forwards in the AFL and NEAFL team.

Littlejohn may be young, but has already proven himself as a Coach after taking the North Launceston Tasmanian State League side to back-to-back flags in 2014-2015.

His philosophy is simple - ‘play your role.’

“I just need to play my role as a development Coach,” Littlejohn said on LionsTV.

“Like we’ve spoken about heavily, we’re trying to make this footy club relevant again in the AFL.

"That’s obviously playing my role, and what I do will hopefully help out.”

Despite the Brisbane heat, Littlejohn says that he has loved his first week working for an AFL Club.

“I’ve love every minute of it (his first week). It’s obviously something that’s been a real passion of mine,” he said.

“(I’m) excited to work with the young forward group.

“I think it’s really exciting. It’s a young list, the youngest list in the AFL which is fantastic.

“There’s some really good talent here. Just really making sure we can try to maximise that talent.

Littlejohn’s focus with our forward group will be about efficiency.

“Obviously trying to make them improve individually, and collectively make our whole forward half of the ground really efficient.

But It’s not just football that Littlejohn will focus on with our young group, it’s a holistic approach.

“From a development point of view, it’s about working on their whole aspect of life as well. It’s not just their footy,” he said.

“Making sure they’re comfortable with how they turn up to our footy club each week.

“Hopefully I can rub off a few little things as we go through the year.
