The Brisbane Lions have appointed Leon Harris as the Club’s recruitment consultant ahead of the 2017 season.

Harris, who played 186 games for Fitzroy and became the first player in the league to kick 100 goals in the number 38 guernsey, is regarded as a champion of the Club.

Among his accolades, he finished runner up in the 1987 Best and Fairest awards.

General Manager of Football David Noble said Harris would add great value to the Lions’ recruiting team.

“It is great to have someone of Leon’s experience assisting the Lions recruiting department in 2017,” said Noble.

“Leon has led the Victorian Country talent programs for 10 years as a coach and 10 years as a high performance manager and has been instrumental in the significant number of young Victorian country players going on to have outstanding AFL careers.

“We feel his experience in this area will add significantly to the Lions recruiting team. In addition he is a former champion player with the Club and brings his passion for the Lions and a desire to see the Club once more become a power in the AFL.”

Harris said he was excited to begin the role and reacquaint himself with some of the Club’s young Victorian players.

“As a life member of Fitzroy, it’s exciting to come back to the Club.

“I've met with David Noble to discuss the role, and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity.”
