Next opposition, Port Adelaide clinched its third win for the 2017 season after dominating Carlton with a 90-point victory at Adelaide Oval last Friday.
The Power controlled the opening minutes of the game, booting four unanswered goals by the 12-minute mark of the first term.
Carlton’s inaccuracy in the first half provided the Power with the lead when it mattered most, kicking just two goals from 11 scoring shots.
The Power started the third term as they did the first, kicking three goals in the first eight minutes and keeping the opposition scoreless, trailing by 79 points at the final break.
Forward Aidyn Johnson made his dream debut as a late replacement for Hamish Hartlett (quad soreness), kicking a goal from his first touch in the AFL and finishing with two majors for the game.
Ollie Wines and Brad Ebert were chief destroyers in the middle, while Robbie Gray proved to be a powerhouse throughout the third-quarter.
Gray was unstoppable with a dominant five-goal performance up forward. His impressive game was recognised with the honour of the Major Peter Badcoe VC Medal.
Power Coach Ken Hinkley was rapt with the consistency the team showed throughout the game.
“It was quite an even performance over the whole night. We had moments when Carlton was challenging us and we were able to get back to the style of footy we like to play,” said Hinkley.
“The third quarter was pleasing (when the Power kicked 6.10 to 0.0).”
After a triumphant 20.17 (137) to 6.11 (47) victory, the Power are sitting comfortably at 6th position on the ladder with 12 premiership points to their name.
Port Adelaide’s next challenge is an away journey to the Gabba, where they will take on the Brisbane Lions on Saturday 29 April at 4.25pm.
Injury Watch
Power’s Captain Travis Boak is expected to miss this weekend’s game against the Lions after being sidelined in the third quarter of Round 5 with scans showing minor hamstring damage. Ollie Wines will captain the weekend’s clash while Boak is expected to return by Round 7.
Lions Health Centre: Injury List
Defender Hamish Hartlett will be assessed ahead of this weekend’s game to determine whether he will be fit for play after being scratched from last Friday’s win over Carlton due to quad injury.
Meanwhile, Angus Monfries (hamstring), Matt Lobbe (hamstring) and Jack Homsch (knee) are likely to be declared fit to return this Saturday against the Lions.
