Tom Rockliff departs the Lions

Josie Fielding  October 11, 2017 4:00 PM

Thanks Rocky The Brisbane Lions today announced the Tom Rockliff will be making the move to Port Adelaide in 2018. He has had a great 9 seasons wearing a Lions jumper so we thank him for all of his hard work and wish him all the best in the future.

The Brisbane Lions would like to thank departing 2017 vice-captain Tom Rockliff for his contribution over the past nine seasons.

The Club decided not to match an offer on the restricted free agent during the Free Agency period.

In return, the Lions will receive a 2017 draft pick at the end of the first round, pick 18.

Brisbane’s General Manager of Football David Noble farewelled Rockliff on behalf of the Club.

“Tom has been a wonderful contributor to our club over a long period of time, providing leadership as the Captain and a multiple best & fairest winner. We understand that free agency allows players to explore the market and look at their options after eight years of service to the Club. We wish Tom, Sharna & Jack all the best with their new venture but will never forget his contribution to our Club.”

Rockliff’s footballing career began when the Lions selected him with their first pick in the 2008 Pre-Season Draft.

The next year, “Rocky” made his debut against Collingwood in Round 18 at the MCG.

In 2011, at 21 years old, he became the youngest winner of the Merrett-Murray Medal as Club Champion, after averaging 28 disposals per game.

Three years later, Rockliff received his first All Australian Blazer and was again named 2014’s Club Champion.

In 2017, Rockliff was awarded the Alastair Lynch Trophy for finishing third in the race for Club Champion. He was also named the Lions’ Player’s Player, for the third time in his career.

Rockliff played 154 games for Brisbane and captained the side in 2015 and 2016.
