It was an exciting and tense finish to the final round of the 2018 season for the Brisbane Lions.

A dominant win over the GWS Giants, followed by wins by both the Western Bulldogs and Collingwood, saw the Lions book their spot in the AFLW Grand Final next Saturday at Ikon Park.

Friday night’s performance against the Giants showcased some of the Lions’ best skills with the team having a dangerous impact on the scoreboard right from bounce.

Sabrina Frederick-Traub continued what has been a fantastic season-long campaign, kicking four goals, three of which came in the opening quarter.

Frederick-Traub found plenty of ball with 18 disposals and five marks. The standout performance now sees her sit as the league’s winner of hit-outs (60%) and contested marks (avg 2.6 per match).

Her stellar performance has earnt a nomination for the AFLPA MVP of the Week. Vote for Sabs here.

Both the Lions and Giants shared equal opportunities at goal with 28 inside 50s. The Giants made 44 tackles to 43 while Lions won hit-outs 25 to 24.

While the numbers fail to suggest that the Lions were far more dominant than the Giants, only gaining 14 more disposals, 6 more clearances and 5 more contested possessions. But it was the first 15 minutes of the match where the damage was done.

The Lions kicked their highest score in AFLW history, propelled by six goals in a brilliant opening stanza.

Ally Anderson collected a game-high 25 disposals and is now second in the league for disposals following the Bulldogs' Emma Kearney.

Kate Lutkins now holds a tied record for effective short kicks (nine), leads the league in possession gains (avg 9.1 per match) and is second in the effective disposal count (avg 11.7 per match).

With the regular season wrapped up, all eyes are now on the Grand Final.

The Lions will travel to Ikon Park on Friday before the big game begins on Saturday against the Bulldogs.
