Simon Black will make his debut on Fitzroy’s spiritual ground when he plays in the inaugural Brunswick St Bash.

Black, who has not played footy since 2013 will headline the AFL 9’s styled tournament.

“I'm looking forward to it,” Black told lions.com.au.

“I haven’t really played a game since I retired in 2013.

“I attempted to play a game in New Zealand last year, but I hurt myself in literally the first five seconds of the game. So I’m looking forward to strapping on the runners.”

It will be a reunion of sorts for Lions premiership players – with Jason Akermanis, Clark Keating, Chris Johnson and Martin Pike named.

“To catch up with a lot of the old former players and Fitzroy players will be really good,” Black said.

“I haven’t seen Aker for quite a number of years.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him. I know he keeps himself in pretty good shape. So I’m sure he’ll be trying to get a lot of the footy and be best on ground knowing Aker.”

Flying the flag for the Lions AFLW team is Kaitlyn Ashmore.

“Kaitlyn’s a star for the Women’s side and it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Black said.

"I hope she’s on my team, so I don’t have to chase her.”

For both Ashmore and Black it will be a great opportunity to connect with the Lions’ Victorian fanbase.

“There’s some great support from the Club down in Victoria obviously. The old Fitzroy faithful. Getting back to Brunswick St Oval will be really cool. I don’t believe I’ve been there since 2004,” Black said.

The Brunswick Street Bash starts at 11:30am on Sunday 8 April and is free of charge.
