Enjoy the Christmas break, but don’t over-indulge.

That's the message from Senior Coach Michael Voss to his players ahead of their two-week holiday period.

Voss said it’s important that his players remain professional with their preparation during the break, and don’t undo all their hard work from the past two months.

“It’s very tempting to have that extra crackle, (but) you’ve got to look after yourself,” Voss said.

“They should relax and enjoy themselves, but also be very mindful of the fact that they have something that awaits them on their return.”

“They still have to do their 2km test and make sure they present in the right fashion.”

“As an athlete, you always have to live on the edge, that’s the reality. You don’t have the same lifestyle as your family and friends.”

The message comes at a critical time for the Club, which is in the fortunate position of having the majority of its playing list back into full training.

Jed Adcock has already commenced his running program following post-season hip surgery, while Matthew Leuenberger and Brent Staker have done everything right with their respective rehabilitations.

Simon Black, who underwent a minor clean-out of his knee recently, has been the only ‘real’ casualty at this stage of the pre-season.

“Blacky’s probably our most (serious) at the moment – he’s not expected to come back post-Christmas strait away and start training, but everyone else is in pretty good shape,” Voss said.

“The other major one is Matthew Leuenberger, but he’s progressing nice and slowly. We’re taking things steady with him to make sure he’s right.”

“We’ve got 38-40 on the track which is really pleasing, and should get more players back after Christmas.”
