The Brisbane Lions’ search for a new training and administration base has been narrowed down to two potential sites – the Greater Springfield development, and the Queensland Sports and Athletic Centre (QSAC) in the city’s southeast.

Lions Chief Executive Malcolm Holmes told The Courier Mail on Thursday that the Club still had much work to do before reaching its final decision.

“We are down to two options, but it is an ongoing process and we are months away from making a decision,” Holmes told The Courier Mail.

"It is probably one of the most critical decisions in the history of this football club, so we want to make sure that we get it right.

"We want to make a decision that is in the club's best interests but also a decision that is in the best interests of the AFL because we want to continue to grow the game in Queensland as best as we can."

The search for a new headquarters officially commenced at the end of 2011 following a strategic planning session designed to map out the future direction of the organisation.

The Gabba, however, will still remain the Club’s home ground for AFL matches.

Lions Chairman Angus Johnson said the development of a new base would be vital to the Club getting ahead of its AFL rivals.

"This is part of our philosophy of continuous improvement," Mr Johnson told lions.com.au almost 18 months ago.

"We want to have the No.1 training and administration centre that also caters for community needs, not just in the AFL but any code in the country.”

"This is about getting ahead of the pack."
