Dayne Zorko has accepted a one-match sanction handed down by the AFL’s Match Review Panel for striking the Giants’ Phil Davis during the third quarter of Sunday’s match.

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the GWS Giants Football Club, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct with low impact to the head.

The incident was classified as a two-match sanction; however because Zorko has no applicable record and after reviewing the evidence and assessing the options, the Club and Zorko decided to take an early guilty plea.

The penalty means the Lions will be without the playmaker for their Round 1 match against the West Coast Eagles in Perth.

“The Club weighed up the options and thought the best course of action was to accept the penalty handed down by the MRP,” said General Manager of Football Matthew Francis.
