Dayne Zorko says there is no reason why the current crop of Lions can’t emulate the success of the Club’s early 2000s.

It was revealed yesterday that Zorko, 27, had put pen to paper to remain at the Gabba until the end of the 2020 season, ensuring the Brisbane Vice-Captain will finish his career with the Lions.

“We want to help rebuild this Club, it was obviously so successful in the early 2000s.

“There is no reason why we can’t emulate that. It can all change around pretty quickly,” Zorko said.

The Brisbane Lions clinched three premierships between 2001-2003 as the first Club to go back to back to back since Melbourne in the late 1950s.

“I think everyone wants team success. I’m really comfortable that this group has the potential to taste success and I’d love to be a part of that.

“We’ve put in a really solid pre-season, we’ve just got to carry that forward now,” he said.

“The future looks bright.”

Zorko, who dominated the local Queensland competition playing for Broadbeach in the QAFL before being picked up in the 2011 National Draft, is now the fifth-oldest player on the Lions’ young list (behind Daniel Merrett, Martin, Trent West and Hanley).

“It was a bit of a lengthy process but I’m very happy that the deal is done now.

"Being a Lion for life is probably something I never really expected with my pathway and being assured for the next four years is a fantastic feeling.

“You’ve got guys like Josh Schache, Ben Keays and Rhys Mathieson who are coming through and I want to be part of their success because I think they’re definitely going to taste it.”
