Melbourne sits just outside the top eight with a 4-4 win-loss record and has a chance to maintain or better its position when they meet the Brisbane Lions on Sunday at the MCG.

Despite one of its best starts to the season in recent years; Melbourne has still lost some winnable games after being heavily favoured against Essendon and St Kilda, and if it is to continue its upward trend, they cannot afford to take the Lions lightly.

The Dees will be without Neville Jetta who will miss after coping a one-week suspension for striking the Western Bulldogs’ Marcus Bontempelli.

Injury Watch

The Dees’ Dom Tyson (lower back) and forward Jack Watts were on light duties during Wednesday’s training session.

While Matt Jones (back) and Sam Frost were also part of the rehab group as they worked on their conditioning. Veteran defender and former Magpie Heritier Lumumba (concussion) was also not out on the track.

Chris Dawes is still one week off his return from a calf injury.

Casey Scorpions (Melbourne’s VFL team) coach Justin Plapp said:

“Dawes had 13 possessions, kicked 2.2 and had two effective tackles. It was Dawesy’s second week back from injury. He looked like a player who had really improved from his first game, and he competed really strongly. Chris moved with the ball really well, and his second and third efforts were really strong. As the game went on, he really impacted. It was really pleasing to see Dawesy improve in his second week back.”

Dean Kent moved freely and is primed to return after missing last week's clash against the Western Bulldogs with a back complaint.
