The all-conquering UWS Giants extinguished any remote chance the Brisbane Lions Reserves might have had to play NEAFL finals this season on Saturday, with a dominant display at Spotless Stadium.

The Giants took full advantage of a severely undermanned Lions side, putting them to the sword early with a seven-goal-to-two opening term, before extending their lead to 75 points at the main break.

The Lions simply had no answers for the home side, who proceeded to extend their lead to 127 points by the full time siren, winning 25.12 (162) to 5.5 (35).

It was the Lions’ biggest loss for the season, and leaves them five games and considerable percentage shy of a top six berth, with just six games remaining.

It means that the reigning back-to-back NEAFL premiers won’t get the chance to defend their title in September.
