The rise of Harris Andrews was the feel-good story for Brisbane Lions supporters in 2015.

The 18-year-old’s excellent first year form culminated in a Rising Star nomination in Round 18 for his defensive work against the more mature Geelong side.

The Lions returned to pre-season training on Monday and Andrews said the first few sessions had been hard work.

“It’s been a couple of tough sessions already.

“I’ll continue to build a good fitness base (during the pre-season).

“Endurance is obviously a pretty strong element of the game going forward with the limited rotations.”

Harris Andrews: "It Was A No-Brainer"

Playing 19 games in his first season, the Hyundai Help for Kids Lions Academy graduate looks set to develop into one of the games’ best young defenders.

“I’ll look to continue what I did last season, next year, so hopefully I’ll continue playing down in the backline again,” Andrews said.

The Lions traded in Jarrad Jansen, Tom Bell, Ryan Bastinac and Josh Walker in the off-season and three joined teammates during the session at Coorparoo on Wednesday.

“I met Basti (Ryan Bastinac) today, Tommy Bell and JJ (Jarrad Jansen) are both great fellas. They’ve got a really great work ethic. I know Tommy’s got great conditioning and good running form.”

Andrews said he has been impressed with fellow first year player Josh Clayton in first week of pre-season.

“Joshy Clayton is in for a pretty big season. We’ve obviously only had two sessions but he’s been running really well and hopefully in for a big season.”
