The Qualifying Final of 2001 between the Brisbane Lions and Port Adelaide is one that won’t be forgotten by fans and players alike.

The Lions and Power finished second and third respectively on the ladder at the end of the home-and-away season.

Following their 13th straight win the previous week, the Lions approached the match with confidence.

A win would see them seal a home Preliminary Final

Port Adelaide had the better of the first half, helped by the Lions' poor kicking, and led by 16 points at the main break in front of a boisterous Gabba crowd.

A stronger second half saw the Lions find their composure and excel at both ends of the ground.

Booting nine goals in the second half, and keeping the Power to just one, the Lions ran away with a comfortable 32-point win.

An incident involving Alistair Lynch and Port Adelaide's Darryl Wakelin would cost the Lions’ full-forward a one-match suspension which saw him miss the Preliminary Final against Richmond.
