Luke McGuane has been booked by the AFL Match Review Panel, but will be free to play should he accept an early guilty plea.

McGuane was charged with striking Sydney defender Jeremy Laidler during the first quarter of last Saturday night's match.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Sydney Swans, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point).

This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two Offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction.

He has no existing good or bad record. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 93.75 demerit points towards his future record.

The Lions have until midday on Tuesday to decide whether to contest, or accept, the sanction.
