The Brisbane Lions today welcomed some fellow big cats to the Gabba, as they unveiled the Club’s latest ambassadors, Terri, Bindi and Robert Irwin.

The Irwin family were on hand with some very special members of the Australia Zoo family including Sumatran tiger cubs, Hunter and Clarence, and beautiful Australian wildlife, to announce the new partnership.

Lions utility, Dan Merrett, said the Club was extremely excited to welcome the Irwins to the Lions family.

“The Irwin family are not just icons of Queensland, they are famous all over the world and we are pumped to have them on board,” said Merrett.

“Everyone knows how passionate the Irwin family is, especially when it comes to conservation and the work of Australia Zoo and their charity Wildlife Warriors, and we are proud to claim them as passionate Lions fans too.

“We have had some big name Queenslanders throw their support behind us this year, but none bigger than Terri, Bindi, Robert and the Australia Zoo family. It’s pretty exciting!

“It’s not every day you see a tiger cub running around the Gabba, it’s been a very surreal experience. It’s sad to think such an amazing creature is in danger of becoming extinct and an experience like this really makes you appreciate the work that Australia Zoo and the Irwin family is doing.

“Whilst we are pumped to get Terri and the kids to the Gabba throughout the season, we are just as excited to see some of the boys donning the khaki and jumping on board as Wildlife Warriors.”

Terri Irwin concurs on the exciting partnership, saying: "Bindi, Robert and I are so proud to be ambassadors for the Brisbane Lions. We should all support the Lions. They are champion athletes and true Wildlife Warriors."

As part of their ongoing relationship, Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors will be match partners for the upcoming Brisbane Lions vs. Richmond Tigers game at The Gabba in Brisbane on Thursday April 17.

The Irwin Family join the Mission Queensland Firebirds, Champion Queensland racehorse, Buffering, Australian Cricketer, Ryan Harris, and Olympic swimming Gold medallist, Mel Schlanger, on a growing list of iconic Queenslanders throwing their support behind the Lions.
