Victorian-based Brisbane Lions fans have had to wait until Round 9 to see their team live for the first time in the 2014 AFL Premiership Season.

The first eight weeks has seen the Lions travel to Adelaide, Launceston, and even New Zealand – but an anomaly in the fixture has meant a large percentage of Lions fans are yet to see their team play live this season.

Assistant Coach Simon Black said the team certainly notices, and appreciates, the level of passion shown by the Club’s loyal band of supporters in Victoria.

“We always get great support down there from the old Fitzroy fans and general Lions supporters,” Black told LIONS TV as part of the Vero Coaches’ Wrap.

“We’ve had to wait until Round 9 to get down there and play in Melbourne…and the guys are really looking forward to going down and playing at the home of footy.

“I encourage all our supporters to come out and give us that support that the boys get a real kick out of. Hopefully they can help us get over the line.”

A number of activities have been planned around Saturday’s match against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium, from pre-game get-togethers to match-day events.

The Club will also be hosting around 150 past players and officials from Fitzroy, the Bears, and the Lions at the annual reunion in Melbourne.

The action will continue on Sunday, with all Young Lion and Lion Cub members, player sponsors and coaches club members treated to exclusive functions with the playing group.

The good news for the Club’s Victorian faithful is that the Lions will be back regularly throughout the second half of the season, with matches to come in Round 12 (v Western Bulldogs), Round 16 (v Richmond), Round 19 (v Melbourne), Round 21 (v Collingwood) and Round 23 (v Geelong).
