It’s no secret that the Brisbane Lions have generally struggled to kick a winning score this season.

The Lions currently rank 15th in terms of total points scored, and have reached triple figures just twice – against Melbourne (Round 5) and Geelong (Round 13).

In fact, the Lions have scored more than 85 points on four occasions in 2013 – all of which have resulted in wins.

It’s an issue that the Club has long identified, but are yet to find a permanent solution for.

“Vossy’s been talking for a few weeks now about our inability to put on scoreboard pressure and how that’s been affecting us,” Fancast co-host Dom Fay said during the latest instalment of the popular LIONS TV segment.

“I think he’s got a genuine point…I feel like we are struggling to get points on the board.”

The Lions’ lack of scoring power is probably best highlighted by their current goal-kicking list.

Only three players – Jonathan Brown, Dayne Zorko, and Rohan Bewick – have kicked 10 goals or more, with Brown leading the way on 20.

Brown is also the only Lions player to feature in the AFL’s top 60 goal-kickers for 2013. The three-time Club Champion sits equal 24th.

Compare that with current ladder-leaders Hawthorn, who have four players within the competition’s top 25 goal-kickers.

Fay’s co-host Michael Whiting said that while Brown is starting to look more dangerous, he simply can’t keep shouldering the bulk of the team’s scoring load.

“One positive out of the (Hawthorn) match was certainly Jonathan Brown’s form,” Whiting said.

“There was a lot of talk earlier in the year with regards to where he’s at. We’re still seeing that there’s a lot of value in Browny – not only his leaders but also in his play on the field.

“They’re still trying to nail down that second target, which is obviously an issue. And the crumbing guys probably have to hit the scoreboard.
