A Round 12 Bye meant the Brisbane Lions Reserves had to wait for two weeks before they could atone for their first loss of the 2013 NEAFL season – and they did so in style with a comprehensive 99-point win over Labrador on the Gold Coast.

The match was effectively over by quarter time, with the Lions booting nine unanswered goals in the opening term to take a 55-point lead into the first break.

Reserves Coach Leigh Harding was thrilled with the way his team responded.

“The first quarter was very, very good,” Harding told lions.com.au.

“Our pressure on the opposition was terrific, and it helped us kick nine goals to zero into the breeze.”

Josh Green was listed as the Lions’ best player, while Sam Michael wasn’t far behind with a game-high four goals up forward.

“Josh got his hands on the ball playing between half-forward and in the centre, and hit the scoreboard with three goals,” Harding said.

“When he was playing on the ball, he got plenty of clearances and was good defensively as well. It was an all-round game.

“Sam (Michael) played forward all day and had four goals by half time. We didn’t play him in the ruck at all.”
