The appointment of a new Co-Captain to sit alongside Jonathan Brown won’t be the only significant change to the Brisbane Lions’ on-field leadership model in 2013.

Lions.com.au can reveal that the Club’s new-look leadership structure will also include two Vice-Captains and a ‘Mentors Group’ designed to assist with the development of the team’s younger players.

The Mentors Group was an initiative developed by the players and championed by veteran midfielder Simon Black.

Black will play a key role with the Mentors Group, with the remaining members to be appointed when the Leadership Group is finalised before the start of the Premiership season.

The new model will provide further opportunities for the Club’s emerging younger players to enhance their leadership capabilities.

It replaces the five-man Leadership Group from 2012, which included Brown (Captain), Jed Adcock, Daniel Merrett, Tom Rockliff, and Josh Drummond.
