The Brisbane Lions women’s team took time out of their preparation before the club's historic first ever regular season AFLW win to get behind an important initiative - World Cancer Day on the 4 February 2017.

With 14 million deaths per year globally from cancer expected to rise to 21.7 million by 2030, World Cancer Day aims to raise awareness about how individuals, organisations, and communities can all play a part in the global fight against cancer.

Being active and choosing a healthy lifestyle are key messages promoted by World Cancer Day, and the Lions women helped further this message with posts on Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat to remind people that  'We can. I can.’ all be active in the fight against cancer.

Lions Women’s Support Partner, Epic Pharmacy, provides services for patients receiving cancer treatment and Epic’s parent company Icon Group is Australasia’s fastest growing provider of cancer care.

Lions Board member, Cathie Reid - who was celebrating the 5 year anniversary of Icon Group this week by attending our women’s win in Melbourne - expressed her gratitude to the female players who showed their support for World Cancer Day. Cathie encourages everyone to visit worldcancerday.org for more information.
