BRISBANE Lions coach Michael Voss says it will require a superhuman effort to stop in form Cats midfielder Gary Ablett on Sunday.

Abeltt had 46 disposals, seven marks and three goals against Adelaide on Saturday night in one of the finest individual games of the modern era.

“I’ve thought about this and I’m going to bring the kryptonite with me and try and see whether we can stop him that way,” Voss said.

“He was enormous on the weekend. He’s obviously grown his game over the last year or two.

“Whoever takes that match-up, we’ve got to be able to support him as best we possibly can.”

Voss said Ablett was the best player in the competition at the moment but was also quick to point out that the Cats had eight other All Australians in their team.

“If you put all your energies into one person it’s like lifting the rug on a bunch of rats, they all scoot out under the rug all over the place,” Voss said.

“With any great player it’s really hard to totally limit their influence on the game.

“What we have to limit, or at least attempt to, is his damaging possessions, which is when he sets up inside 50 entries, when he runs with the ball for 20 metres and he baulks three players and he’s kicking his goals, they’re the ones that you try and at least minimise.”

Voss has given his players three days off after last Friday’s loss to Collingwood, which came after a six day break.

The eight day break before taking on the Cats will be much appreciated by the players, who can be content with their efforts so far, two wins from four games leaving them in eighth place on the ladder.

“There is no tougher challenge than being able to go down to Skilled Stadium and try and take on the cats who have been the best team in the competition for the best part of two or three years now,” Voss said.
