It was hard to fault Daniel Rich’s performance against the Western Bulldogs on Sunday.

Rich was clearly the game’s standout player, collecting 25 quality touches (at an efficiency rate of 84%) and booting four magnificent goals - which was a personal best for the West Australian.

Even more telling were his game-high 11 inside 50s, most of which resulted in goals to his team-mates - with Captain Jonathan Brown the main beneficiary of his lethal left foot entries.

But the game was just the icing on the cake for the 22 year-old, who has enjoyed a supremely consistent 2012 season - one that Senior Coach Michael Votes rates as his best yet.

Speaking after the game, Rich humbly praised the work of his team-mates in helping get him the ball.

“It was probably one of my better games, but it wasn’t all me - I got fed a few times,” Rich said.

“The boys were really good in tight, and it was just one of those games where the ball fell into my hands a fair few more times than others.”

Despite being one of the team’s best players in 2012, Rich was far from satisfied with his overall performance.

“I’ve still got a long way to go to get to where I want to be for the team, but it was definitely an improvement from the last two years which have been disappointing from a personal point of view,” he said.

For a man that obviously sets very high standards for himself, the prospect of an even greater output from Daniel Rich next season would no doubt excite Lions fans over the off-season.
