In recent seasons, the Brisbane Lions haven’t had a great record in Simon Black milestone matches.

Black suffered defeats in each of his 200th (v Collingwood in Round 9 2007) 250th (v Collingwood in Round 18 2009) and 300th (v Geelong in Round 5 2012) games, and was again part of a losing side last Friday on the night he equalled Marcus Ashcroft’s Brisbane games record.

There have been some notable exceptions to the rule, of course, with Black celebrating his 100th in style during the 2002 AFL Grand Final.

His 150th also resulted in September success, this time against Geelong in the 2004 Preliminary Final at the MCG.

In Round 12, following the Lions’ Bye, Black will run out for his record-breaking 319th match against Fremantle in his former home state of Western Australia.

Tom Rockliff told The Courier Mail that it was important for the Lions to respect Black’s achievement by putting on a good show against the Dockers.

“It’s a massive day for the footy club,” Rockliff told The Courier Mail on Monday.

"Blacky is an all-time great. He has been a super player for more than 15 years and it's a significant day for him and the Club.”

"It's over in his home state too so Blacky will be up for the game and we need to lift for him.”

Black won’t be the only player set for a significant milestone, with teammate Joel Patfull also due to play his 150th match in Round 12.

“You talk about building a club and creating the right culture and things like that and Blacky and Joel are great at that,” Rockliff said.

“There's nobody at the club better than those two at that. They lead by their actions and it's important that we put in a performance they can be proud of.”

Rockliff, who expects to have recovered from a quad strain in time to travel to Perth, said that fourth-placed Fremantle would be incredibly tough competition.

“Ross Lyon has Fremantle playing really well at the moment. They are very well-drilled and we need to combat their press and find a way to get through their pressure and give ourselves a chance of winning,” he said.
