Six new Lions were officially welcomed to the den on Saturday when they were presented their Brisbane Lions AFLW guernseys for the first time.

Joined by family, friends, teammates, staff and sponsors, 2021 recruits Maggie Harmer, Bella Smith, Mikayla Pauga, Luka Yoshida-Martin, Lucinda Pullar and Phoebe Monahan were each presented their Lions’ guernseys at the spiritual home of Queensland football, the Gabba.

It's always a special moment for both the players and the families alike as they are officially welcomed into the Club.

For off-season recruit Monahan, the occasion was made all the more special by a teammate.

With her Mum unable to make the journey from Melbourne, housemate and former Army colleague Kate Lutkins took on guernsey presentation duties for the Victorian recruit.

The pair first played football together in an Army team back in 2016, and Lutkins said that it was an honour to get to present Monahan’s guernsey on behalf of her Mum.

“It’s really special to have Phoebe here at the Lions,” Lutkins said.

“With the ADF and the Army, you have that special bond and relationship already. You’re on the same page and share the common interest and bond, and it runs pretty deep.

“And then to be able to play in Lions’ colours together, I think is pretty special, and then to present her guernsey on her Mum’s behalf just tops it off.”
