With 83 goals from 19 different players across the 2022 AFLW season, thereβs no shortage of highlights to choose from when looking at the top goals of the year.Β
So, weβve done the hard work for you and have handpicked our top five goals from this AFLW season, as we look back at the season that was.Β
#1 Bodeyβs Agile GoalΒ
How could we go past Greta Bodeyβs Goal of the Year nominated agile shot?Β Β
An ever-present threat in the Lionsβ attack, Bodey showcased her agility to evade traffic and boot a goal against Carlton in Round 3.Β
A clever passage of play, Bodey gathers the ball before feigning a handball and kicking to teammate Maria Moloney inside the 50. Moloney is quick to handball back to Bodey who evades traffic and runs into the goal square for her second of the night.Β
#2 Zimmieβs Magic DebutΒ
While there were plenty of moments in Farquharsonβs debut game that would rank among our highlights, her best came in the form of a clever goal from the boundary late in the fourth quarter.Β
Taking a strong mark on the boundary, the young forward steadied herself before snapping around her body to lock away the six points and announce herself to the competition.Β Β
#3 Tayβs goal on the MCGΒ
Taylor Smith showcased her ability to perform under pressure when the Lions played on footballβs biggest stage, the MCG, in their history-making Preliminary Final against Melbourne.Β
With Brisbane down by four points midway through the second quarter, Smith gathered with composure to kick truly off her left foot 30 metres from goal to put the Lions in front.Β
#4 Shannon Campbell Sneaks ForwardΒ
Who doesnβt love a defender sneaking forward and kicking goals? In 2022, Shannon Campbell found herself inside 50 for not just one or two, but three goals.Β
No highlight reel would be complete without her surprise goal against the Bulldogs in Round 10, Campbellβs first since Round 7 2021, and the third of her AFLW career.Β
Taking a handball from Courtney Hodder just inside the 50m mark, Campbell launched a flying shot at goal to put the Lions well in front midway through the third term.Β
#5 Team Effort Against the Western BulldogsΒ
Nothing embodies the Lionsβ spirit more than a team effort, and in Round 10 they delivered, with Jesse Wardlaw, Greta Bodey and Courtney Hodder working together in this brilliant running goal.Β
Streaming down the wing, Bodey takes two bounces before drawing on Wardlaw to evade traffic. With the ball back in her possession, Bodey sprints down into the attacking 50, handing off to Hodder who finishes it off in the goal square.Β
