Scans have confirmed that Lily Postlethwaite will miss the remainder of the AFLW season after rupturing her right ACL.

The skilful defender sustained the injury in a contest late in the first quarter of Sunday’s match against Fremantle.

The result is a cruel blow for the 20-year-old, who only made her return to AFLW on Sunday after missing the last season and a half with an ACL injury on her left knee.

Brisbane Lions Head of Women’s Football Breeanna Brock said the Club is devastated for Lily.

“It’s absolutely heartbreaking news for Lily and the entire team,” Brock said.

“She left no stone unturned in her recovery from her previous injury and played out the vast majority of the recent QAFLW season, so it feels like a particularly cruel twist of fate for her season to end this way.

“The team and the Club will rally around Lily to provide her with our full support during her recovery.”

Postlethwaite will meet with surgeons over the coming week.
