Upsetting one of the AFL’s Premiership favourites last weekend helped deliver a much-needed boost to the Brisbane Lions’ confidence as they approach the final two rounds of their 2012 campaign.

But Senior Coach Michael Voss says his team’s inconsistency from week-to-week means that they will be taking nothing for granted against Port Adelaide this Saturday afternoon.

Speaking prior to the Lions’ training session at AAMI Stadium on Friday morning, Voss even agreed that Port Adelaide would rightfully fancy their chances of securing a maiden win under caretaker coach Garry Hocking.

“They probably should (be confident), our ladder positions (the Lions are 13th and Port Adelaide 14th) dictate so,” Voss said.

“You never take teams for granted - especially when you’re at their home venue.”

“In the last few weeks we’ve started to build back to some form, but we haven’t consistently demonstrated that we can do that over consecutive weeks.”

“We did it last week against Adelaide, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that we can do it (against Port Adelaide). That’s the challenge for us.”

Voss identified winning the contested football as the key towards being able to kick a winning score.

“We’ve had a fair focus on our inside 50s because that ledger hasn’t been in our favour a hell of a lot across the whole year,” he said.

“We have to make sure we give our forwards a look because one area that’s been a reasonable strength of ours this year is when it’s gotten in there, we’ve actually scored very well.”

“But it all starts at stoppages and with our midfielders.”
