The Brisbane Lions have made further changes to its list ahead of the 2023 season.

After four years with the Club, Connor McFadyen has been informed he will not be offered a contract for next year.

McFadyen was selected from the Brisbane Lions Academy with pick 42 in the 2018 National Draft as a promising versatile prospect.

Having started his career as a forward, the 21-year-old was swung back to play as a defender midway through the VFL season.

“During his time with the Club, Connor showed good form in the VFL, but due to injury and competition for spots had limited opportunities to break into the team at AFL level,” said Brisbane Lions List Manager Dom Ambrogio.

“It’s been a very difficult decision and we thank Connor for his contribution to the Club and wish him all the best for the future.”

The Lions are also committed to retaining veteran Ryan Lester and fellow defender Nakia Cockatoo, with the Club set to reselect the pair through the AFL Rookie Draft at the end of the year.

“With pressure for lists spots next season and the Club needing to take enough selections into the draft, we have had to make these changes,” Ambrogio explained.

“Both Ryan and Nakia are great team men who live by our selfless values, and we thank them for their cooperation in assisting the Club in this process.”
