Jesse Wardlaw’s outstanding 2022 NAB AFLW Season 7 has been acknowledged at the W Awards on Tuesday night, with the 22-year-old presented with the AFLW Leading Goalkicker Award.

Wardlaw wrapped up the prestigious award in Round 10, kicking her 19th goal of the season to put herself three goals clear on top of the tally.

The award comes off the back of a standout season for the tall forward which saw her named in her third selection in the AFL Players’ Associations 22Under22 team.

Her 19 goals saw Wardlaw carve herself a slice of AFLW history, equalling Adelaide’s Ash Woodland’s record for the most number of goals kicked in the home and away season.

The clever forward was drafted to the Lions at pick No. 61 in the 2018 AFL Women’s Draft, and quickly established herself as a mainstay of the Lions’ forward line.

A Rising Star nominee in her debut 2019 season and an All-Australian squad member in 2020, Wardlaw has taken her game from strength to strength since arriving at the den.

Her Season 7 performance has been her most consistent and prolific to date, averaging two goals per game at 66.7% accuracy.
