Brisbane Lions triple Premiership player and Lions Hall of Fame Legend, Jonathan Brown has been invited to present the AFL Premiership Cup if the Lions are successful in Saturday’s 2025 Toyota AFL Grand Final.
Since 2004, each competing club in the Toyota AFL Grand Final have nominated a representative to present the Premiership Cup to the winning team, with Leigh Matthews performing the honours in 2024.
Brown accepted the Club’s invitation this week.
Jonathan Brown:
“It’s an amazing honour and I am extremely grateful,”
“I have had a love for this club from a very young age, and it is great to still have a connection, because I am still very proud Lion.
“In some ways, I feel more pride about this group than mine, because when you are playing, you are in the moment.
“But when you are on the outside you marvel at what this group has been able to achieve. And to play a small role is an amazing feeling.
“Our team in ‘03 was a year of overcoming adversity, and I think this group has a similar quality - their ability to overcome adversity and challenges is on the same level.
“That’s what makes a great team, because this competition is highly competitive and Premierships are hard to win.
“Win or lose though, I will still be so proud of this group and I am in awe of them.”
“It will be an amazing feeling to present the cup.
“It felt amazing in the rooms last year singing the song and the boys took me into the locker room for a photo with the Cup and that photo is something I really treasure.
“So, to actually be on the Premiership dais handing over the Premiership Cup would be an amazing feeling and pretty bloody exciting.”
Brisbane Lions CEO, Sam Graham:
“Browny is a lifelong Lion who has had a massive impact for the club both on and off the field.
“He joined the club as a father son selection back in 1999, following in the footsteps of his dad, Brian, who played 51 with the Roys. He debuted in 2000, kicking 594 goals across 256 matches.
“During the three peat era he was a Premiership hero and superstar of the competition, a fan favourite who stayed true to the maroon blue and gold through thick and thin and he continues to be a great supporter following his playing days.
“We’re thrilled he’s accepted the offer.”
