The Brisbane Lions today announced the 2026 Hall of Fame event will be held in Melbourne on Saturday 2 May following the Round 8 match against Essendon at Marvel Stadium.
Throughout the Club’s combined history – born from Fitzroy and the Bears – the Brisbane Lions have produced some of the game’s most celebrated figures.
The Hall of Fame recognises and enshrines the most outstanding players, coaches, administrators, and other notable contributors across the Club’s merged VFL/AFL history.
First held in 2012, and most recently in 2023, the evening gives members and fans the opportunity to meet the current team and celebrate the club greats who contributed to these pivotal moments in the Club’s rich history.
Of around 1,500 players to represent the club, only six, Simon Black, Jonathan Brow, Haydn Bunton, Kevin Murray, Michael Voss and Garry Wilson have earned the added prestige of being elevated to official Club ‘Legends’.
Lions Chairman, Andrew Wellington said 2026 marks a significant historical moment for our club.
“It is both 30 years since the club as we now know it was formed, with the Fitzroy Lions and Brisbane Bears officially merging in 1996. And, it is 40 years, since the Brisbane Bears were granted a licence to play in the VFL.
“Back then, the administrators of our game had a vision to create a national competition and make our football code a national game, and our club was very much at the forefront of this evolution.
“As a club, we have been through some very tough times to get to where we are today, we’ve been building the club, as we know it for 30 years, but we have a rich history dating back 140 years across two clubs and two states.
“The position we find ourselves in now is very much due to the dedicated work by many across Victoria and Queensland including our ever growing base of members and fans.
“The Hall of Fame is always a special night for our club, this is the first time we’ve had the event in Melbourne since 2019, and we look forward to seeing our members and fans join us to celebrate the individuals who have shaped our Club and welcome the newest names into the Hall of Fame.”
