The Brisbane Lions VFL side will roll out seven club debutants and a new coach against Southport in Round 2 of the Smithy’s VFL.

Newly appointed VFL coach, Scott Borlace is set to unleash 2025 draftees Tai Hayes, Koby Evans and Cody Curtin against the Sharks in the Lions first game of the 2026 Smithy's VFL Season.

Hayes will get the opportunity to face the club he was drafted from while Evans and Curtin have recovered from pre-season injuries to take their place in Borlace’s side.

VFL recruit Dylan Smith will also run out in Lions colours for the first time while former Youi Lions Academy members Hunter Moore and Charlie Hewitt and current member Archie Smith will make their VFL debuts.

Defender Tom Doedee returns from injury and will play his first game since Round 19 of the 2025 Smithy’s VFL season.

Bailey Hahn, Harrison Bridge and Matt Owens have been named as the emergencies.

Fans are encouraged to get down the Brighton Homes Arena for the first bounce at 11:05am with free admission for all supporters.

If you can’t make the game, you can follow along with the Lions socials for live updates or catch all the action on the AFL app or the live stream on https://www.afl.com.au/vfl.
