Building on the success of previous workshops delivered by Multicultural Australia, this initiative brings together practical skill-building with community connection in a unique and engaging way.

Hosted at the Brisbane Lions state-of-the-art Springfield facility, Brighton Homes Arena, the program provides participants with hands-on experience in building and maintaining their own bicycles.

“Partnering with Multicultural Australia on the Youth Building Bike Workshop is a fantastic opportunity for us to support local young people in a practical and meaningful way,” Brisbane Lions Head of Community, James Dowling said.

“It’s not just about building bikes, it’s about building confidence, independence, and a sense of achievement.”

Over the course of the workshop, participants develop valuable mechanical skills, confidence, and teamwork, culminating in each participant completing and taking home their own bike.

Beyond the immediate achievement, the program is designed with a broader purpose in mind.

“We as a club are committed to creating positive pathways for young people in our community,” Dowling continued.

“By helping remove barriers like access to transport, this program can open doors to education, training, and employment, and we’re proud to play our role in that journey.”

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment from both Multicultural Australia and the Brisbane Lions to support inclusion, empowerment, and long-term outcomes for young people in the region.

Butrus Haider, Multicultural Australia’s Youth Services Team Leader stated “This workshop was a great success, giving young people practical skills, confidence, and a strong sense of pride. It also highlights the value of our partnership with the Brisbane Lions in delivering impactful opportunities for young people. We look forward to continuing this collaboration and finding new and innovative ways to invest in young people and the broader community.”

The Youth Bike Building Workshop is an investment in the future of these young participants, helping build independence, resilience, and pathways toward greater opportunity.
