Experienced small forward Allen Christensen will be in the Lions Den until at least the end of the 2019 season, after extending his contract with the Club earlier this week.

The 27-year-old has played all 12 games for the Lions in 2018, after two years on the sidelines due to multiple collarbone injuries.

“I’m very excited to sign on for another stay at the Club. I’ve really enjoyed my time here,” Christensen told lions.com.au.

“I’ve obviously had my ups and downs through injury but to be back out there again, I’m loving it.

“The coaches and all the people around me have been really supportive so I’m excited to keep building on my form.”

Christensen came to the Club during the 2014 AFL Trade Period, via Geelong, where he was a member of their 2011 Premiership side.

In Round 2 against Melbourne, he celebrated 100 AFL games and has kicked seven goals so far this year.

Last year he was voted in by his teammates to the Lions leadership group, now led by Captain Dayne Zorko.

“To be part of this leadership group is a privilege,” Christensen said.

“I’m looking forward to taking this Club into the direction it wants to go in.”

Christensen enjoys mentoring the younger players on the Lions' list and last year contributed as a sideline coach for thepremiership-winningg NEAFL team.

General Manager of Football David Noble said Christensen has shown determination during his time at the Lions.

“It is great to have Allen extend his contract as he has worked hard to overcome his collarbone issues in his return to our team,” Noble said.

“He is also a strong presence in our leadership group and we look forward to his ongoing contribution with us.”
