AFLW Lions select Nat Grider with Pick No. 22

AFLW Draft: Nat Grider Welcome to the den Nat Grider who was taken at pick #22 in this years AFLW Draft.

All Australian and under 18 Queensland captain Natalie Grider is now a Lions AFLW player, with the Club selecting her with Pick No. 22 at today’s NAB AFL Women’s Draft.

The 18-year-old is a Lions Hyundai Help for Kids Academy junior and starred in the 2018 QWAFL competition for University of Queensland.

The defender was named on the interchange bench in the QWAFL’s Team of the Year and was recognised as the Rising Star of the competition in her 12 matches.

Grider had her first taste of AFLW earlier this year when she played for the Lions in the Winter Series against GWS Giants and the Gold Coast Suns.

Born and bred in Brisbane, Grider started playing footy as a teenager for the Jinadlee Jags. Earlier this year she was invited to test at the AFLW Combine.

Coaches Comment – Craig Starcevich

“Nat’s a Lions Academy player who was captain for Queensland this year. She’s primarily a medium-sized midfielder but really had her breakout patch at the nationals playing at half back.

“She is really good above her head for her shape and size and can win her own ball in a contest.

“Nat is a great athlete and we can’t wait to add her to our team.”

Welcome to the den, Natalie!
