Brisbane made a slow start with Curtis McCarthy providing the only goal of the opening term, leaving Werribee with an early 19 point advantage going into quarter time.
The Lions gained some momentum in the second quarter, with Sam Tilley and Fergus McFayden both kicking majors, whilst Reece Thompson closed out the half with two goals.
Post the half time break, the Lions kicked into gear, winning the third quarter and kicking three majors while keeping Werribee goalless. McFayden booted his second major of the day to compliment goals from Koby Evans and Isaac Waller.
The sides traded goals early in the opening minutes of the final term, with McCarthy kicking his second for the afternoon. However, Brisbane struggled to maintain their momentum, with the hosts booting the final three majors to secure the win.
Sam Marshall was instrumental in the midfield, with 24 disposals and seven clearances. In his first VFL season, Tilley also impressed collecting 19 disposals, a goal and five clearances.
The Lions have a bye this weekend, before returning to Brighton Homes Arena in their inaugural match against the Tassie Devils on Friday June 26 at 11am.
