The Brisbane Lions thank champion midfielder Lachie Neale for his outstanding contribution to the Club across eight seasons, following confirmation he will join Collingwood as an unrestricted free agent.
Neale joined Brisbane ahead of the 2019 season and played 186 games in Lions colours, establishing himself as one of the most decorated players in Club history and a central figure in an era of sustained success.
- 186 games for the Brisbane Lions
- Three-time premiership player (2024, 2025 and 2026), including two premierships as co-captain
- Two-time Brownlow Medallist (2020 and 2023)
- Four-time All-Australian (2019, 2020, 2022 and 2024)
- Four-time Merrett–Murray Medallist as Brisbane’s Club Champion (2019, 2020, 2022 and 2024)
- Co-captain from 2023 to 2025, helping guide the Club to three consecutive Grand Finals
General Manager Football Danny Daly said Neale’s impact extended well beyond his individual honours.
“Lachie has been an exceptional player for the Brisbane Lions and we thank him for everything he has given our football club over the past eight seasons,” Daly said.
“His consistency, preparation and competitiveness set an outstanding standard. Lachie’s ability to win the contest, perform in the biggest moments and bring his teammates with him made him a special player and an important part of our success.
“As co-captain, he carried the responsibility of leading the Club with great pride. Alongside Harris Andrews, he helped drive the standards of our playing group and guided the team through three Grand Final campaigns, including back-to-back premierships.
“While we are sad to see Lachie leave, he does so with our gratitude and respect. We wish him and his family all the very best for the next chapter, and he will always be an important part of the Lions story.”
Neale departs the Lions having played 321 AFL games in total and leaves an enduring legacy through his contribution to three premierships and the Club’s rise as a consistent contender.
The Lions will receive a Second Round compensation selection, currently pick 39, in the upcoming 2026 Telstra AFL Draft.
