The Brisbane Lions have informed defensive duo Darragh Joyce and Luke Beecken they will not be offered contracts for the 2027 season.

Joyce joined the Lions through the AFL Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period ahead of the 2023 season after six years and 13 games with St Kilda.

The Irish defender played 14 AFL games across four seasons with Brisbane and was a valued member of the defensive group through his experience, competitiveness, and team-first approach.

Beecken was selected with pick 17 in the 2024 Mid-Season Rookie Draft after more than 50 SANFL games with Woodville-West Torrens, including the club’s 2021 premiership.

The rebounding defender debuted against Fremantle in Round 23 last year and played one senior game for the Lions, while remaining a consistent contributor at VFL level.

Lions General Manager Football, Danny Daly thanked the pair for their time at the club and wished them well for the future.

“Darragh and Luke have both made a valuable contribution to the Brisbane Lions and have been highly regarded teammates during their time at the Club,” Daly said.

“Darragh’s experience, resilience, and willingness to put the team first have been greatly appreciated, while Luke has shown strong development and application throughout his time in our program.

“We thank them both for their tireless effort and commitment to the Club and wish Darragh, Luke and their families all the best for the future.”

The Lions also confirm Luke Lloyd and Koby Evans will be temporarily removed from the club’s AFL list with the club committed to re-selecting them via the upcoming rookie draft.
