DEVELOPMENT Coach Ben Hudson says the Lions must nullify the impact of Collingwood small forward Jamie Elliot if they are to win on Saturday night.

“He’s probably got more ink than the Beams brothers combined”, Hudson said.

“He’s a small forward who also has the ability to also pinch hit in the midfield. He’ll be someone we need to keep under control.”

With thunderstorms predicted in the evening, Hudson stressed the importance of defensive pressure around the Magpies small brigade that includes Alex Fasolo, Elliot and Dane Swan – who will rotate through the midfield and forward line.

“Something we’ve been good at in the pre-season games is creating forward half turnovers.

“If we can hold our back line in good stead, create those turnovers and score from them – we’ll go a long way to winning the game”, he said.

“Hopefully there’s a big crowd and from all indications there will be.

“The boys are excited and eager to get the season underway.”
