LAST TIME THEY MET
The Lions entered their Round 23 match against West Coast after a narrow loss to Collingwood the week before and were determined to match it against a top-four side.
In wet conditions, the home team started strong and led by 13 points at the main break courtesy of strong goals from Tom Rockliff, Patrick Karnezis and Josh Drummond - despite losing utility Brent Staker in the first quarter in what would be a season-ending knee injury.
The Eagles fired back in the third to close the gap to 2 at three-quarter time, before a late fade-out from the Lions saw West Coast pile on three goals to seal the win.
The night ended with further emotion as popular Club veteran Luke Power announced his retirement from the Lions to the crowd.
Best for the Lions were Tom Rockliff (30 possessions, 13 tackles) and Daniel Rich (27 disposals, one goal, nine tackles), while Andrew Gaff’s 25 disposals and Chris Masten’s 31 disposals and 3 goals made them the best for the visitors.
Brownlow Medal Votes: 3 - C. Masten (WCE), 2 - T. Rockliff (BL), 1 - A. Gaff (WCE)

Vice-Captain and reigning Best and Fairest winner Tom Rockliff is set to play his 50th senior AFL game since being recruited in the 2009 Pre-Season Draft from the Murray Bushrangers.
Utility Brent Staker joined the Lions from West Coast in 2009’s trade week. Unfortunately, in the two teams’ last meeting in Round 23 last year, Staker injured his knee, ruling him out for the 2012 season.
The Lions have eight current players recruited from Western Australia: Rohan Bewick (West Perth), Todd Banfield (Swan Districts), Simon Black (East Fremantle), James Hawksley (Peel Thunder), Matthew Leuenberger (East Perth), Ash McGrath (South Fremantle), Daniel Rich (Subiaco) and Elliot Yeo (East Fremantle).
