Now that they have settled into the Club, lions.com.au caught up with new draftees Ryan Lester and Patrick Karnezis to get their thoughts on their first few weeks at the Lions.

What has been the best part of pre-season so far?
RL:
It would have to be getting to train with guys I have grown up watching, like Jonathan Brown and Simon Black, and guys like Daniel Rich.
PK: Getting to know all the players, getting used to the training and meeting new people.

What has been the hardest part?
RL:
The competitive stuff is pretty hard because your body isn’t quite as developed as the other boys’, so they push you round a fair bit!
PK: The running and the gym work is pretty tough.

What do you think of Brisbane?
RL:
I’ve been lost a couple of times on the one-way roads.
PK: It’s pretty laid-back, it’s a bit confusing getting around though but I’ll get there.

How is home life going?
RL:
I’m living with Bryce Retzlaff, one of our second-year players, and he looks after me a fair bit. He has helped me adjust to the professionalism of AFL which is a big difference so that’s been really good.
PK: Home life is good. I’m living with Xavier Clarke and I’ve settled in really well. He’s not too good at Playstation though, we’ve been playing a lot and I beat him most of the time.

What are you missing most about home?
RL:
Mum’s home cooking.
PK: Friends and family and the social life.

What has been the biggest adjustment you've had to make living here?
RL:
Probably not being able to just go ten minutes down the road and see your mates and not having family round all the time.
PK: Just being away from family and friends, and also trying to get around because I don’t have my licence. Xavier’s been chauffeuring me around though.

What are you most looking forward to next season?
RL:
Playing footy, hopefully I will get a senior game.
PK: Playing as much football as I can, whether it’s reserves or seniors. It’d be really good to get a senior game.

What are your plans for Christmas?
RL:
Going home, seeing the family and I will be going away for a few days with a few mates which I’m looking forward to.
PK: Back home to Melbourne, spending two weeks there and then packing everything up and coming back up here again!

Has anyone in particular at the Club taken you under their wing?
RL:
Probably Todd Banfield and Matt Leuenberger, they have been really good to me.
PK: Xavier (Clarke), because I’ve been living with him for a few weeks now. The senior players and coaches have been really good, and Ryan and I played together at Oakleigh so it has been so much easier having a mate around. We played together for about three years there.

Who has the most unusual habit at the Club?
RL:
Jamie Charman and his mood swings.
PK: I don’t know about habits but having been here for a few weeks now, I have noticed that Todd Banfield’s wallet has quite a few cobwebs on it.
