It’s official. The Lions will meet Hawthorn for Round 1’s AFL match on Sunday afternoon at the MCG. With the squad set to be released later today, the Lions Media team preview who could be in the mix for selection by Senior Coach Chris Fagan and his coaching staff.

Deven Robertson

Robertson presented a strong case to Fagan in the Club’s second Marsh Community Series match against Carlton. In his first senior game for the Lions and with limited minutes, the tough, inside midfielder had 11 disposals and five tackles. His teammates credited his leadership qualities and were impressed by his first outing.

Callum Ah Chee

Callum Ah Chee came to the Lions via the Gold Coast SUNS in the 2019 NAB AFL Trade Period. The defender had only played one senior AFL game in 2019 after back-to-back injuries, however in 2020 at his new Club he has enjoyed a consistent pre-season and played in both pre-season Marsh Community Series matches. With each game the slinky, skillful, fast defender is looking more comfortable in the Lions backline.

Brandon Starcevich

Starcevich was another who impressed in the Club’s second Marsh Community Series match against Carlton. The winger backed himself in the off-season by skipping an overseas holiday and working hard in the gym. The work paid off with the 20-year-old noticeably stronger and lighter on his feet, having taken 20 seconds off his 3km time trial.

Cameron Ellis-Yolmen

The big-bodied midfielder did not have his best outing in the first Marsh Community Series match against Port Adelaide at the Moreton Bay Sports Complex and was dropped for the second match. However Ellis-Yolmen responded in the NEAFL’s match against the Northern Blues, racking up the disposals and dominating in clearances.

Fagan’s squad will be released this afternoon at 5:20pm AEST on lions.com.au.
