An afl.com.au analysis of the 2014 AFL Fixture has concluded that the Brisbane Lions will be faced with the toughest draw in the competition next season.

Despite finishing 11th in 2013, the Lions are scheduled to play return matches against three finalists from last season - Fremantle, Geelong and Richmond - as well as North Melbourne and the improving Gold Coast SUNS.

However, the fixture does not faze new Senior Coach Justin Leppitsch who has instead welcomed the challenge.

“We won’t shy away from the challenge because if we’re going to improve, we need to be able to compete against these top sides," Leppitsch said.

"I also see it as a real opportunity for our guys to face-off against the reigning Premiers in Round 1 and then Geelong in Round 2. What better way to start the season than by testing yourself against two of the best teams in the competition."
