Fagan has also selected Grant Birchall and Callum Ah Chee to make the first appearances for the club while veteran Ryan Lester has also been named as one of four changes to the side that lost the Hawthorn in round one.

Berry, who was banging on the door for senior selection during a strong season in the NEAFL in his first year at the club last year, forced his way into the side with his performances in intra-club matches over the past two weeks.

Border closures due to the Covid 19 pandemic means his dad Troy won’t be able to attend the game but he has promised to be heard all the way from Victoria.

“It is just one of those super proud moments, I think Brisbane supporters will be hearing me cheering on Saturday from down here,’’ he said.

“It was his boyhood dream to play AFL and to get to play alongside his older brother, it is hard to describe what it means to him and to all of us in his family, it is what dreams are made of.

“Whether there are crowds there or not or the fact I can’t be there, it pales into insignificance against the opportunity he has been given to realise his lifelong goal.

“It is a step in the journey, I’ll get that opportunity down the track.’’

Troy said he never once imagined he’d have two sons playing in the AFL, let alone alongside each other.

But he said his late wife Jedda wouldn’t be in the least bit surprised.

“I never allowed myself to go there, but certainly my late wife and the boys mum honestly believed they had big futures in front of them.

“She could see it.

“Every afternoon I’d get home from work and they would be in the backyard belting the living suitcases out of each other playing footy and working towards their dreams and their mum believed in them every step of the way.’’
