Brisbane Lions supporters might already have a lot of love for Tom Rockliff, but a few more fans have jumped on board the ‘Rocky’ bandwagon thanks to his stunning AFL Fantasy performance in 2014.

Even though he missed last Saturday’s match against the Cats, Rocky averaged more points than any other player in the competition this season, and in doing so set a new AFL Fantasy benchmark.

His average of 134.8 points per game bettered Collingwood midfielder Dane Swan’s previous record of 133.5 in 2012, and was 15 points better than his nearest rival in 2014, Gary Ablett (119.1 points).

Throughout the season, Rocky had seven scores of 150-plus, including a personal best 190 against Gold Coast in QClash 8 when he also broke the Club record for most disposals in a single game (47).

By season’s end, his value was around the $730,000 mark, which is unprecedented in AFL Fantasy.

I could probably talk about Rocky’s feats for this entire column, but big Stef Martin is worthy of a mention as well.

Stef not only had the second best average at the Club this year (112.2 points per game), but ranked third overall – behind Rockliff and Ablett – for the season.

If there was an award at the AFL for Most Improved Player, he would have been an absolute certainty to win it this year.

With Trent West and Matthew Leuenberger both floored with injuries midway through the season, a lot of AFL Fantasy coaches (including me) took a punt on Stef given he was next in line to shoulder most of the ruck load.

And those coaches weren’t disappointed when he went on to score 100 points or more in 10 of his 12 games – and in the two he didn’t reach triple figures, he still managed 99 and 97!

It was a supremely consistent effort.

No surprises to see Jack Redden, Pearce Hanley, and Dayne Zorko at the pointy end of the leaderboard, but there a few new faces in the Club’s Top 10 this year, including Jack Crisp, Ryan Lester, James Aish, and Ryan Harwood.
