The annual Easter Thursday blockbuster will make a welcome return to the Gabba in 2014, with the Brisbane Lions set to host Richmond.

A scheduling conflict last year meant the Club missed out on the opportunity.

Lions CEO Malcolm Holmes said it was important for the Club to be part of the annual standalone match.

“We are thrilled to be back playing at the Gabba on Easter Thursday after missing out last year,” Holmes said.

“The Easter Thursday blockbuster gives our Club the rare chance to play in front of a national audience and be watched live by millions of people world-wide.”

The occasion will also mark new Senior Coach Justin Leppitsch’s first match against the Tigers, with who he spent the past four seasons as an Assistant Coach.

But Leppitsch and the Lions will certainly have their work cut out for them in Round 5.

Not only are Richmond fresh from their first Finals campaign in 12 years, but the Tigers also boast the best record of any team at the Gabba over the past decade.

In fact, Richmond has not tasted defeat at the Lions’ home ground since 2004.
