The Brisbane Lions are confident that utility Brent Staker will re-sign with the Club upon his return from holidays.

National Talent Manager Rob Kerr told SEN on Wednesday morning that Staker had been offered a new contract to continue his career in Brisbane.

"Brent's got a deal in front of him that covers the next two years and I would have thought satisfies all the criteria he was seeking to have satisfied,” Kerr said.

“I would have thought it would make sense for him to continue at the Lions.”

Staker made a stunning return from consecutive knee reconstructions this season, playing 15 consecutive senior games and kicking 21 goals.

He has now played a total of 44 matches with the Lions since moving across from West Coast at the end of 2009.

The Lions are also still waiting on a decision whether midfield star Simon Black wants to play on in 2014.

Black, who holds the Brisbane games record after 16 sensational seasons with the Lions, is expected to advise the Club of his intentions later this week.

"Simon Black's yet to make a decision on whether he plays or goes into coaching next year. I think it's been a pretty tough one for him," Kerr said on Wednesday.

"He had a knee operation about six weeks ago, so I think he's sort of been contemplating how has that gone, does he feel he will be able to go again, or would he be better off moving into the next phase of his career.

"My understanding is that he and Justin Leppitsch will have a chat this week, and hopefully things will firm up from there."
