Key duo Dayne Zorko and Stef Martin will push for selection in the side to take on Adelaide at the Gabba on Sunday after returning to training yesterday.

Zorko was a late withdrawal from Saturday’s 30-point victory over West Coast due to Achilles soreness.

Martin was not named in the side after suffering a minor hamstring strain in the round 2 victory over Fremantle.

High-Performance manager Damien Austin said the Club had taken a conservative approach with the two veterans.

“We played it pretty precautionary with both of them and it was probably the right decision,’’ he said.

Zorko began to feel soreness in his Achilles after returning to training following the Covid 19 postponement of the season.

He was able to play in round two against Fremantle but after continuing to feel discomfort in the lead-up to the West Coast match the decision was made to give him a complete break from running for a few days.

Austin said he had responded well to the rest and was a chance to return this week against Adelaide at the Gabba on Sunday.

“Dayne ran yesterday and ran quite well so we will assess him throughout the week,’’ he said.

“Pretty much how he pulls up will be the dictator of how far we can progress so we will give it the week, we’ve got a long turnaround so we will go from there.’’

He said after Martin complained of hamstring tightness last week he was scanned which revealed a minor strain.

He also trained strongly yesterday to keep his hopes of a return alive.

“It was just a mild strain of his left hamstring which is opposite to his PCL knee,’’ he said.

“We ran him yesterday and he ran quite well so he is progressing well but once again we will see how he goes throughout the week.’’

With Zorko and Martin both to be tested, Marcus Adams remains the only player on the injury list.

Adams is currently being held back from running to give his foot injury time to heal.
