Brisbane Lions rookie Stephen Wrigley did his adopted State proud on Saturday as the NEAFL Northern Conference ‘All Stars’ from Queensland/Northern Territory easily disposed of the best players from the Eastern Conference (NSW/ACT).

After a tight opening quarter, the Northern Conference side dominated the contest and eventually ran-out resounding 145-point winners - 31.15 (201) to 8.8 (56).

Wrigley, who was the only listed Lions player selected in the side, earned praise from State Coach Jason Cotter for his efforts - along with plenty of his team-mates.

“I don’t think anyone played a bad game and as you think about the match and think about the playing group you can say we had 22 contributors,” Cotter said.

“Ryan Davey was a standout, Scotty Clouston was terrific, Cameron Illet was terrific, Steve Wrigley was terrific...Danny Wise, Fraser Thurlow, Wayde Mills, Daniel Dzufer - it just goes on and on.”

It proves yet another feather in Wrigley’s cap, given the dashing defender has already twice been selected in the NEAFL Team of the Year (2010, 2011) and last year won Labrador’s Best & Fairest award.
